Via Ferrata Crete Capetaniana The mountain range of Asterousia is located in southern Crete separating
the flatland of Mesara from the Libyan sea. Little did we know before the excavations that there were
ancient Cretan civilizations and because of the natural beauty and cultural heritage,
it has been nominated to be under the protection of UNESCO.
Descending from the village Kapetaniana and within a few minutes of driving on a paved dirty road,
we reach the entrance of Eligia Gorge. Having to hike for almost ten minutes to get to Via Ferrata Crete Capetaniana ,
we jump at the chance to explore the diversity of the geomorphology of rocks of the territory and the Gorge itself.
Upon entering Via Ferrata, one can admire its wild terrain and additionally the imposing Kofina top (1.231m)
of Asterousia range which escorts us till the end of the route. As we keep moving on, approximately in the middle
of the route and at the location of Mytiki, we will be able to not only see but also find ourselves between
the Libyan sea and the Gorge; there is no doubt that this is the ideal spot to capture the beauty
of nature so get ready to take lots of pictures!
In the circular path on the steep slope whilst overseeing the endless blue beneath us, we ascend
to make our way to the exit of Via Ferrata. As a last challenge, there is an almost twenty-minute hiking to reach our vehicles.
All in all, the three kilometer route lasts for 3-4 hours which are enough to change your
