Hiking Asterousia Mount
Hiking to the southernmost peak of Europe in Kapetaniana, Crete. In a beautiful but also wild route, following old paths, yidostratas and streams with water, the climb to Kofina is a unique experience. Our hike starts through the village of Kapetaniana and towards the top of Kofina we will hike on a very impressive route.
We will pass by the archaeological site of Lousudi, we will see the metochi of the Three Hierarchs of the 14th century, where a philosophical school operated here under Iosif Filagris, who was a scholar of Aristotle, After the landscape is barren, arid and wild with many small and large canyons. The path becomes uphill and exposed but the wooden handrails offer help to those who need it.
The last part is impressive and moves through a gully to go to the top. In a very short time we are at the top with the church of the Holy Cross. During the Minoan era it was a peak sanctuary. Wild and at the same time beautiful with moderate difficulty in the beginning and middle of the route, but difficult and demanding in its last part will last about 6 hours. Both the wild beauty of the area, together with the goddess will offer us unforgettable images.
