Gerakina Canyon: Experience Canyoning Close to Athens

Gerakina Canyon, located just an hour from the center of Athens, is ideal for those who want to experience canyoning. It is dry for most of the year and features 16 descents, offering visitors a unique and memorable adventure.

The canyon offers stunning views of the Gulf of Corinth and features both wide areas and narrower passages. The descents are neither too large nor too small, making the route suitable for beginners while still being engaging for more experienced participants.

The Activity

The activity begins with the group meeting at the canyon entrance, where you will receive your equipment, followed by a safety check and training. Afterward, there is a short 15-minute hike to the canyon’s entrance.

Gerakina Canyon starts with a beautiful 5-meter descent, followed by 17 continuous descents via rappels, with almost no walking in between. The canyon does not include any jumps or slides, making it perfect for beginners and experienced adventurers alike. The total duration of the activity is approximately 5 hours.

After the Activity

After the canyoning experience, you can visit Lake Vouliagmeni and the Heraion, an archaeological site located on the Perachora peninsula. Lake Vouliagmeni, a natural lagoon near the archaeological site, is an excellent spot for relaxation and swimming after your adventure.

Gerakina Canyon is located in the Skinos area, just an hour away from the center of Athens, near Alepochori Canyon. The distance is approximately 90 kilometers from Athens, with easy access via the road network.
