Our journey begins in the picturesque village of Ano Vlassia, where we will start our hike through forested paths with views of the majestic mountains. The route to Platanitsa takes us through beautiful natural areas, offering stunning views at every step. Upon reaching Tripotama, we will enjoy local flavors at an authentic tavern by the river.

After lunch, we will stay overnight at the historic Holy Monastery of Poretsou, offering moments of tranquility and connection with the region’s traditions. The monastic atmosphere, peace, and grandeur of the place will captivate you, making you feel the magic of nature.

On the second day, our hike continues towards Lampeia, traversing beautiful autumn landscapes with golden forests and stunning mountain views. Our journey concludes in the village of Lampeia, where the authentic atmosphere will leave you enchanted.

Detailed Itinerary

Saturday

  • 07:00 Departure from Athens: Board the bus and depart for Ano Vlassia, Achaia. Along the way, a short stop is planned for coffee or a snack.
  • 10:30 Arrival in Ano Vlassia: Arrival in the village of Ano Vlassia. Preparation for the hike (equipment check, briefing from the guides). A brief introduction to the history and natural beauty of the area.
  • 11:00 Start of the hike on Trail 031 (Ano Vlassia – Platanitsa): We start the hike on Trail 031, which passes through dense forests and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and gorges. The hike lasts approximately 4-5 hours, with stops for photos, rest, and observation of the local flora and fauna.
  • 15:30 Arrival in Platanitsa: Upon reaching Platanitsa, there will be time for rest and a light snack. Departure by bus to Tripotama.
  • 16:00 Lunch in Tripotama, Achaia: Stop for lunch at a local tavern. Participants can enjoy local specialties such as roast lamb, local cheeses, and fresh salads. Duration of lunch: 1.5 hours.

    17:30 Departure to the Holy Monastery of Poretsou:

    Transfer by bus to the Holy Monastery of Poretsou, where we will stay overnight.

    18:00 Arrival at the Holy Monastery of Poretsou:

    Settle into the monastery rooms. A brief tour of the monastery grounds, with historical insight into its significance and role in the area. Free time for personal relaxation or a walk around the monastery grounds.

    21:00 Rest:

    Time for relaxation and rest in the peaceful monastic environment.


    Sunday

    08:00 Breakfast:

    Traditional breakfast at the Holy Monastery of Poretsou, featuring local products like bread, honey, and fresh dairy.

    09:00 Start of the hike on Trail 031 (Platanitsa – Lampeia):

    Departure by bus to Platanitsa, where we will continue the hike on Trail 031 toward Lampeia. This route is equally impressive, passing through mountain landscapes, small streams, and forests. The hike will last about 4 hours, with stops for rest, photos, and nature observation.

    13:00 Arrival in Lampeia:

    Upon arrival in Lampeia, participants will have some free time in the village, perhaps to visit a traditional café or take a short stroll.

    14:00 Lunch:

    Lunch at a local tavern in the area, with options for traditional dishes.

    16:00 Departure for Athens:

    Board the bus and depart for Athens. A stop is planned along the way for coffee and rest.

    19:00 Arrival in Athens:

    Arrival at the designated location in Athens. End of the excursion.

    Difficulty Levels Explained

    Trail: Ano Vlassia – Platanitsa (Trail 031)

    • Difficulty Level: Moderate
      The trail from Ano Vlassia to Platanitsa follows a well-marked path with gentle uphill sections and scenic landscape variations. It is suitable for hikers with a good fitness level, without requiring advanced technical skills. There are plenty of rest stops and enjoyable views along the way.

    Trail: Platanitsa – Lampeia (Trail 031)

    • Difficulty Level: Moderate to Easy
      The second day features a primarily downhill route with a more relaxed pace and lower endurance demands. The trail passes through beautiful natural areas and is ideal for a leisurely hike, though attention is required in some downhill sections. Suitable for hikers of all experience levels.

    Difficulty Scale (Objective Criteria):

    • Level 5: Highly Technical – Demands high technical expertise and excellent physical condition.
    • Level 4: Difficult
    • Level 3: Demanding
    • Level 2: Moderate
    • Level 1: Easy

    These difficulty levels are evaluated based on objective criteria and apply to the average person who walks 2 to 4 kilometers per day. Level 5 is always intended for those with advanced technical skills and excellent physical condition.

    The region around Ano Vlassia, Platanitsa, and Lampeia in mountainous Achaia, where you will be hiking on Trail 031, is rich in natural beauty, history, and culture.

    • Holy Monastery of Poretsou: This historic monastery, where you will be staying, is one of the most important in the area. It was built in the 10th century and became a center of spiritual and national action during the Ottoman period. It functioned as a secret school and played a significant role during the Greek War of Independence in 1821.
    • Lampeia (also known as Divri): A village with a long history, it has been an important hub for trade and communication from ancient times to the modern era. It is also known for its stone-built houses and churches.

    The area is characterized by lush forests of fir, pine, and plane trees, offering rich biodiversity. During the hike on Trail 031, you will cross rivers and streams that originate from the mountains, such as the Erymanthos River.

    Mountainous Achaia offers impressive views and abundant natural beauty, with gorges, rocky landscapes, and wildlife. The autumn season provides a magical setting with golden leaves and fresh air, perfect for hiking.

    Required Activity Equipment

    To ensure your comfort and safety during the hiking activities, having the appropriate equipment is essential. The weather may be cold and wet, so preparation is key.

    • Hiking Boots:
      Waterproof boots with good grip to handle potentially wet or slippery terrain.
    • Layered Clothing (Layering):
      • Base Layer: Moisture-wicking synthetic or wool fabric to keep sweat away from your body.
      • Mid Layer: Insulating fleece or thermal jacket to keep you warm.
      • Outer Layer: Waterproof/windproof jacket for protection against wind and rain.
    • Hiking Pants:
      Durable, waterproof, and stretchy for comfort and protection in all conditions.
    • Gloves and Hat:
      Since the weather can be cold, especially at higher altitudes, gloves and a hat are important to protect you from the cold.
    • Backpack (30-40 liters):
      Big enough to carry your essentials (water, snacks, waterproof gear, extra clothing). Ideally, it should be waterproof or have a rain cover.
