Slovenia – Juliana Trail and Via Ferrata

May 1 @ 08:00 - 17:00

Slovenia – Juliana Trail and Via Ferrata  19 – 27 October 2024

Juliana Trail in Slovenia with the most Adventure company in Greece.
Another epic adventure journey with the dominant element of crossing paths and the adrenaline of Via Ferrata passages and all this taken from the beautiful landscapes of Slovenia.
BOA Base Outdoor Activities Hellas Tourism & Outdoor Activities Office, specializing in adventure tourism and hiking around the world, travels to explore beautiful Slovenia with you.
On a unique 9 day trip !! in the Julian Alps, with hiking and via ferrata in the most beautiful country in Europe.
The Juliana Trail is a long-distance circular trail with a total length of 270 kilometers, which offers an exciting opportunity for the visitor to explore the Julian Alps region through hikes.
The trail is divided into 19 sections (17 were the original and then 2 more were added in a different direction), with each of them being about 17.5 km long. On our own circular route (we chose the most beautiful parts of the route) the Juliana Trail makes the round of Triglav National Park on the northwest side of Slovenia.
Throughout our trip we will pass by the most beautiful spots of Triglav National Park, such as Lake Bled, the emerald river Soča, the beautiful Bovec, the path of the 7 lakes, the Mostnica gorge and the Voje valley, the most photographed spot in Slovenia – the incredibly beautiful Vintgar gorge, Lake Bohinj formed by glaciers,  the beautiful waterfall Savica and many other places, which will offer us unique images.
The program is flexible and allows team members not to participate, in case of fatigue, all days in the activities mentioned in the program. There is the option for some of them to enjoy them by doing a different activity, such as kayaking on a lake or cycling around them (extra activities are not included in the cost) or to have a rest day.
Also, participants will be able to choose each day which group they want to participate in, because 2 groups of activities will be formed.
The first group will be the hiking team and the second group will be the Via Ferrata team.

Program

Day 1
Saturday 19 October 2024
Airport El. Venizelos – Ljubljana
Accommodation in a 3* hotel
Distance: 5+ km
Altitude difference: 250m
Activity hours: 3+
Road trip / Guided tour / Hiking

Morning departure from Athens to Ljubljana.
After our arrival in the capital of Slovenia, we will depart for Triglav National Park.
In a travel mood, we will head to Kranjska Gora, which is also a global ski destination, as the final destination of our day.
For the first day in Slovenia we chose to cross the Vintgar gorge
The Vingar Gorge or Soteska Vintgar – it is one of the most beautiful and phonographed landscapes in Slovenia – and is 1.5 km long and surrounded by high vertical cliffs.
Until 1890, the gorge was mostly inaccessible, except for two points that could be reached – Radovna, and a bridge over the Šum Falls that had already been built in 1878. The rest of the canyon was explored in 1891 by the mayor of Groove, Jakob Žumer, and by Benedikt Lergetporer, a prominent photographer of the time.
In 1893 the gorge was equipped with wooden observation walkways and bridges and opened to the public on August 26, 1893!
Upon completion of the hike we will go to our hotel.
Reconstruction, preparations for the next day, a walk with a relaxed mood for food
and cold beer await us, just the first day in enchanting Slovenia.

Day 2
Sunday 20 October 2024
Accommodation: Hotel in Kranjska Gora
Distance: 16 km
Altitude difference: 250m
Hours of activity: 4 -6
Hiking / Via Ferrata
Since we rested and enjoyed the first day in Slovenia, the
second day starts very early, with breakfast and departure of the groups for their destinations.
The hiking team starts hiking on the Juliana Trail in order to cover a 17 km route.
On a path that moves through the valley and passes through quarries and small villages of the wider area.
Beautiful and easy trail without great altitude differences.
A path suitable for everyone.
The second group will climb the well-known Vršič Pass in order to make the crossing of Via Ferrata Mala Mojstrovka, (b-c) a very demanding but also very beautiful route.
Upon completion of the activities, the teams will return to Kranjska Gora.

Day 3
Monday 21 October 2024
Accommodation: Hotel in Kranjska Gora
Distance: 20 km
Altitude difference: 600m
Hours of activity: 6 +
Hiking / Via Ferrata
Third day in Slovenia and today our teams will start quite early in the morning their day.
The hiking team will move to the Vrata Valley in order to cross the second leg of the Juliana Trail.
The trail runs from Mojstrana through Dovje and the foothills of Karavanke to the ironworks town of Jesenice.
Beautiful route with historical sites of Slovenia throughout the trail.
The Via Ferrata team will visit Ferrata Hvadnik (b-c), a small but very beautiful ferrata.
Ferrata Hvadnik is a route located within the wild gorge in Gozd Martuljek, which is special because of its location in the gorge and because it offers the opportunity to see all the geological features of the Hvadnik stream.
The route is short but beautiful, half a kilometer long and 250 meters above sea level. The route is difficult B-C and the time we will need to cross it is about 3 hours.
Upon completion of the day’s activities, reconstruction will take place and we will hike around Lake Bled.

Day 4
Tuesday 22 October 2024
Accommodation: Hotel
Distance: 21km.
Altitude difference: 900m
Hours of activity: 6+
Hiking
On the fourth day the teams come together and will follow a common path.
The trail starts from Lake Bled and continues through Gorje, the Pokljuka gorge and having some steep ascents over the Kranjska planina pasture and the Planina Javornik meadow in the heart of the Pokljuka plateau, ends in Goreljek at the Sport Hotel.

Lake Bled, the incredible landscape around and inside it, offers us unique images – a glacial lake with its own water sources. The shore of the lake is ideal for walking.
The trail passes through the foothills of Pokljuka near the sun-facing picturesque village of Gorje, through the Pokljuka Gorge, which is a protected natural monument in Triglav National Park. Two sections of trails run through the gorge — one above the galleries under the natural bridge, the other through the ‘Pokljuška luknja’ or the three-window cave,  leading to the abandoned settlement of Stara Pokljuka. The third part takes us to the Pokljuka Plateau forest on the outskirts of Triglav National Park. Our trail passes over meadows and pastures, where cottage cheese is produced in some of these places. The hike ends in the settlement of Goreljek.
Upon completion of the hike we will go to the wider area of Lake Bohiji.

Day 5
Wednesday 23 October 2024
Accommodation: Hotel in Ukank
Distance: 8 km
Altitude difference: 150m
Activity hours: 3+
Hiking
Very early morning awakening (we will take breakfast with us) and departure for the starting point of the hike.
On this particular day, one of the most beautiful hikes one can do in Slovenia awaits us, which is the “Seven Lakes Valley trek”. An excellent trail of 22+ kilometers with more than 1,300 meters altitude difference that passes through waterfalls, incredible forests, meadows, valleys and of course seven beautiful lakes, but also technical passes via ferrata.
We will try to cover as many kilometers as we can and reach as high as possible.
During the route we will come across 7 unique lakes (there are more) and some shelters. We will pass easy and difficult parts of the trail with great altitude differences.
Our return will probably be with flashlights and fatigue weighing on our feet, but our mind will still be on the wonderful landscapes we will have visited.
So this is the destination of the sixth day in Slovenia.

Day 6
Thursday 24 October 2024
Accommodation: Hotel in Ukank
Distance: 23 km
Altitude difference: 1.300m
Hours of activity: 7+
Road Trip / Hiking

Breakfast and preparations for departure from the area of Lake Bohiji, but before leaving we chose to take a very beautiful circular route of Lake Bohiji, and visit the waterfall Savica.
Two very beautiful routes that unfold the magic of the National Park.
In the area we can go kayaking and swimming in the cold waters of Lake Bohiji or take a bike ride.
Departure for Tolmin.
An enjoyable 2-hour road trip will take us to beautiful Tolmin.
The trail runs parallel to the Soča River and the scenery is magnificent.
Throughout the day we will see beautiful landscapes such as the Kozjak waterfall, castles and historical landscapes of the area.
Tolmin is a fine town built on the confluence of the Soča and Tolminka rivers.
In Tolmin we will make a 3-hour hiking route of the trail that runs parallel to the Soca River.

Day 7
Friday 25 October 2024
Accommodation: Hotel in Tolmin
Distance:10+km
Altitude difference: 150m
Hours of activity: 3+
Road Trip / Hiking / Via Ferrata
If we enjoy our breakfast, we will start early enough to finish our activities.
Departure from Tolmin to Bovec.
There the groups will be separated, with the hiking team doing an 11 km hiking trail and the Via Ferrata group, Via Ferrata Prestreljenik located in Kanin.
The first leg is a scenic trail that passes from the ruins of World War I to Logic pod Mangartom, one of the most beautiful villages on the Juliana Trail.

From Bovec, we walk along the historic route of the Austrian army in World War I, presented in an open-air museum, and up to the mighty fortress Kluže, built over the 60-meter-deep gorge of the Koritnica River. We continue along the right bank towards the gorge and waterfalls of the Nemčlja stream, passing through the bottom of the Možnica Valley and back on the main road leading to Log.

Log pod Mangartom is a beautiful village nestled under the peaks of Jerebica, Mangart, Jalovec and Loške Stene. In the middle of the village, there is an entrance to a tunnel, which reached the mine on the Italian side, and was a source of income for many people in the past. The mine is closed now. Log pod Mangartom is also known as the Valley of the Falls.
As far as the Via Ferrata team is concerned, the cable car climb from 0 to 2,000 meters is impressive in itself.
Via Ferrata Prestreljenik, (a-b) whose difficulty is low, but with beautiful scenery, offers us a panoramic view of the National Park. Upon completion we will start our descent again with the cable car.
