Hiking on the alpine paths – Vardousia

November 4, 2023 @ 07:00 - November 5, 2023 @ 17:00

Hiking on the alpine paths – Vardousia.
Climb to the top of the Costaritsa peak 2,216m and hike to the historic Pentagios.

The program – Hiking on the alpine paths – Vardousia.
Starts on Saturday morning when we will meet in the historic village of Pentagioi
and we will follow a path that will lead us to the peak of Xerovouni.
On a very beautiful hiking trail lasting about five hours we will enjoy the beauty of Vardousia.
At the end of the hike we will go to a traditional stone guesthouse where we will rest and get ready for the next day.

On Sunday morning we will start our day very early with breakfast and departure
for the Kostaritsa peak which you find at 2216 meters.
At the beginning we are dealing with an easy path but then it becomes difficult
and in some places we will climb with our hands to pass some rocks.

The incredible view at the top will compensate us for the difficulty we will face during the ascent.
The program Hiking on the alpine paths – Vardousia is a two-day program that offers the
participant the opportunity to walk on the less known and crowded paths of Vardousia,
which at the same time generously offer the beauty and special characteristics of the area.

Activities point

Costaritsa, which since 1927 bears the administrative name of Dichori, is considered one
of the most beautiful mountain villages of Fokida. Built at an altitude of 1,131 meters on the slopes of Vardousia,
it is located in the northwestern quarter of the prefecture of Fokida, in the mountainous Dorida.
Vardousia
is a mountain in northwestern Phocis and southwestern Phthiotis, Greece.

Its highest peak, Korakas reaches 2,495 m (8,186 ft) above sea level,[1] making it the second-tallest summit in Central Greece after Giona.
It is a southern extension of the Pindus mountains. It is divided into three main parts: Northern Vardousia, whose highest
peak is Sinani at 2,059 metres (6,755 feet), the very steep Western Vardousia, whose highest peak is Soufles at 2,300 metres (7,500 feet),
and Southern Vardousia, with the highest peak of Korakas. The whole range measures about 25 kilometres (16 miles) from north to south.

The Vardousia is drained by tributaries of the river Spercheios to the north, the Mornos to the east and south, and the Evinos to the west.
The Panaitoliko mountains are to the west, Tymfristos to the northwest, Oeta to the east and Giona to the southeast.
The municipal unit Vardousia, named after the mountain, covers the western part of the mountain, and includes the villages Artotina and Dichori.
The municipal unit Lidoriki covers the southern part, and includes the villages Dafnos, Diakopi, Kallio and Koniakos.
The village Athanasios Diakos lies in the east, and Anatoli and Dafni in the north.
