Program: Alta Via 4 – The Epic Hike and Via Ferrata in the Dolomites
Day 1: Travel Day / Road Trip / City Tour
Our journey begins with a road trip departing from Milan Malpensa Airport. We will travel by SUV to the famous mountain town of San Candino, which marks the starting point of our adventure.
Day 2: Road Trip / Hiking / Via Ferrata
We start our day early—06:00 wake-up, followed by breakfast. The adventure kicks off from San Candino, where we will hike through alpine meadows, lush forests, and stunning views of surrounding peaks. This section of the trail offers a mix of landscapes that will surprise and delight.
Day 3: Hiking / Via Ferrata
Starting from Rifugio Locatelli, we’ll journey deeper into the heart of the Dolomites. The trail takes us through diverse terrains, and one of the highlights of the day is passing through the Galleria di Prima Guerra Mondiale, an extraordinary World War I tunnel trail that offers a glimpse into the region’s history.
Day 4: Hiking / Via Ferrata
We depart early for Rifugio Vandelli, near the famous Lake Sorapis. The first part of the trail is easy, leading us to Lake Misurina before the path becomes steeper, ending at the enchanting Lago de Sorapiss. Afterward, we tackle the famous Ferrata Vandelli, a thrilling and technical Via Ferrata route.
Day 5: Hiking / Via Ferrata
An early start at 05:30 and breakfast on the go, as today we face the most demanding Via Ferrata of the trip. This section showcases the true wild beauty of the Dolomites, particularly around Croda del Fogo. Following the completion of the first Via Ferrata, we continue on the Sentiero Carlo Minazzio, a hike supported by Via Ferrata on the more challenging sections.
Day 6: Hiking / Via Ferrata
Our final hiking day takes us to Mount Antelao, the second-highest peak in the Dolomites. Though slightly easier than the previous day, this route is still demanding. After ascending to Forcella Picolla, the trail descends to Rifugio Galassi before another steep ascent on Via Ferrata. From there, we continue to Forcella del Ghiacciaio before reaching Rifugio Antelao and finishing with an 8 km descent into the village of Pozzale.
Day 7: Hiking / Relaxation Day
A rest day with a short but scenic hike through the Val di Funes Valley. We’ll explore the Adolf-Munkel-Weg, one of the most picturesque routes in the Dolomites. This circular trail spans 10 km and moves between altitudes of 1,600 to 2,100 meters, with a break to enjoy tea and a meal at a charming mountain hut.
Day 8: Hiking / Via Ferrata / Departure
Our final day includes one last adventure on the iconic Via Ferrata delle Aquile, located on the eastern side of Cima Roda in the Dolomites, before departing back to Milan.
