River trekking in Kourtaliotiko Canyon

An amazing river trekking experience in Crete.
Our equipment, experienced and certified drivers offer participants a safe and memorable activity.
The area reminiscent of an African oasis, the palm forest, the crystal clear waters of Kourtaliotis, the caves, the unique ecosystem of the gorge, offer an amazing experience.
The program starts with the receipt of equipment (neoprene suits, helmet, backpack and mask) and training how to walk on the banks of the gorge, as well as throughout the traffic.
Then we start our adventure inside the amazing gorge with jumping, swimming, playing and exploring the hidden treasures and crystal clear waters of the gorge.
Intermediate stop for snacks and a few minutes of rest in a beautiful spot in the gorge, and continuation of the activity.
Upon completion at the exotic beach of Preveli the reward is cold beer or ice cream along with commemorative photos and videos of the activity.
The images that each participant has gained are the ones that surely remain unforgettable in a lifetime.
The groups are strictly small in order to offer visitors this unique experience exclusively.

Kourtaliotiko gorge is located in the prefecture of Rethymno, Crete.
The gorge starts near the village of Koxare and flows into Preveli. The gorge is formed between the mountains Kouroupa and Xiro Oros and its walls are up to 600 meters high.
The walls of the gorge hide many caves and in terms of geology it is formed in its largest part in the limestones of the Tripoli group, while at the entrance are the lower layers of Ravdoucha. In the bed of the gorge there is a water source, at the point where the limestones of Tripoli come into contact with the layer of phyllites and quartzites. Kourtaliotis is one of the few rivers in Crete with a permanent flow of water throughout the year.
It is also an important habitat for birds of prey, such as the vulture, the kestrel and the swallow.
